I'm VERY tired...last night was the Semi Formal at my High School, and tonight I went to a local Ska concert. I was invited to the concert by a friend of mine, Jordan C. who is actually a member of one of the bands who performed at the event, "The PaintSplats".
The PaintSplats had a wide variety of instruments used in their performance, and one song even featured beat-boxing with trumpet accompanyment (Too tired to know if that's spelt incorrectly...). Besides the trumpet and beatboxing by Jordan, three other instruments were played. The first was of course, the drums. What band is complete without a percussionist anyway? In addition, the saxophone was played, which to me is a change. I personally listen to Alternative Rock/Hard Rock and Nu Metal...and the use of a trumpet in contemporary styled music is...interesting to me. The final instrument played in the concert by the PaintSplats was, the six string guitar/bass guitar. They were amplified but hey, we ARE teenagers...right?
The Gales were another band who perfomed at the church last night/midnight, and the genre which they were playing was, Ska of course. They were astonishingly good at the concert, and they are actually going to record some of their tracks in a recording studio later this week. They played a wide variety of instruments as well, which included...the bass guitar, lead guitar, drumset, xylophone and of course...vocals. Although the most interesting aspect of their performance, aside from the music was...the lead singer was actually not playing a guitar or anything. He was adjusting the lighting during the performance, in accordance to the rhythm of the music. The device was actually a piece of wood which strongly resembled a guitar, even though it was covered by wiring. I wish that I had brought more money to the concert, considering they were selling T-Shirts to help fund their music/recording time. The T-Shirts were $10, although...I at the time was starving and wasted a couple of dollars at the cheap-and-super-awesome canteen at the church.
The third and final band which was perfoming at the concert earlier was, Foxhunt. Another upcoming band, with a few tracks already recorded. Haha they didn't have T-Shirts though. Since it's kind of late, I won't list the instruments...but I will say that their perfomance was phenomenal. I loved their performance, even though a lot of the tracks were cover pieces and not original tracks.
I'm really looking forward to seeing any more upcoming bands in the area, and hopefully, one of the three bands listed above will be performing sometime soon.
I'm unbelievably tired, and I think that it's time for me to go and pass out now...
Goodnight,
Tyler Fisher AKA TheNextGhosst
